Matisse as Printmaker Opens at Baltimore Museum of Art
Opening on October 25 at the Baltimore Museum of Art (BMA), Matisse as Printmaker: Works from the Pierre and Tana Matisse Foundation will bring an unfamiliar and understudied part of celebrated artist Henri Matisse’s oeuvre to a wider audience. Curated by Jay McKean Fisher, BMA Deputy Director for Curatorial Affairs and Senior Curator of Prints, Drawings, and Photographs, the exhibition--the first to be drawn entirely from the holdings of the Pierre and Tana Matisse Foundation--contains examples of every type of printmaking utilized by Matisse: etchings, monotypes, aquatints, lithographs, linocuts in black and white, and two-color prints. At this opening venue, the exhibition will be united with works from the collection of the BMA. After it leaves Baltimore on January 3, 2010, Matisse as Printmaker will travel to the Tampa Museum of Art, the Blanton Museum of Art, and the Art Gallery of Alberta.

ArtTalks
The next AFA ArtTalk, to be held on Wednesday, October 7, at 6:30 p.m. at Christie’s, will feature Philip-Lorca diCorcia. Often using a combination of natural and artificial light, DiCorcia is known for his seemingly improvisational yet meticulously choreographed photography. Shot over a twenty-five-year period, the 1,000 Polaroids in his 2009 exhibition at the David Zwirner gallery demonstrated his unique cinematic approach and were praised by Roberta Smith of The New York Times as “technically perfect, highly personal, full of life.” To purchase ArtTalk tickets online, click here or please call 212.988.7700 ext. 210.
The following ArtTalk is scheduled for Thursday, December 3, 2009, and will feature landscape painter April Gornik.

Brant Foundation Art Study Center
Greenwich, Connecticut
Saturday, October 17, 2009
Created by publishing magnate and art collector Peter M. Brant, the Brant Foundation Art Study Center was established to promote contemporary art and design and to highlight the world-class artwork Brant has amassed over a 40-year period. Open since May 2009, the center is housed in a 100-year-old stone barn converted by architect Richard Gluckman. The inaugural exhibition, Remembering Henry’s Show: Selected Works, 1978-2008, references an influential exhibition the late Henry Geldzahler curated for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 1969 and consists of almost 100 works from the Brant family’s private collection. Among the many represented artists are John Currin, Keith Haring, Jeff Koons, Elizabeth Peyton, Richard Prince, Cindy Sherman, and Andy Warhol. The Day of Art will include lunch and a visit to a private collection.
