  - - - - Richard Bell: Uz vs. Them
Richard Bell The four-venue North American tour of Richard Bell: Uz vs. Them began on September 8, 2011, at the Tufts University Art Gallery in Medford, Massachusetts. This is the first traveling exhibition in the United States dedicated to the multi-layered work of this Aboriginal artist and activist, and it is being presented at Tufts along with an exhibition of the photographic work of Los Angeles artist Ken Gonzales-Day. Both exhibitions are characterized as “presenting issues of race and objectification without holding back.” In conjunction with the Bell presentation, Tufts has organized a range of interesting programming, including a conversation between Bell and Mick Dodson, Visiting Chair of Australian Studies at Harvard University (September 15); a brown-bag lunch with Bell (September 16); three nights of screenings of Australian films about Australian race relations (September 29, October 13, and October 17); and a panel discussion titled “Shared Experiences: Indigenous Voices” organized and moderated by Joan Lester, a lecturer in Native American Studies at Tufts (October 20). In addition to this public programming, Bell will also be meeting with a number of classes at Tufts. Following the exhibition’s closing at Tufts on November 20, Uz vs. Them will travel to the University of Kentucky Art Museum, Lexington (February 12–May 6, 2012); the Victoria H. Myhren Gallery, University of Denver (September 13–December 9, 2012); and the Indiana University Art Museum, Bloomington (March 1–May 5, 2013).
