All-Stars: American Sporting Prints from the Collection of Reba and Dave Williams
July 1997–April 2000
The depiction of sport is a recurring feature of American art. This exhibition, curated by Reba White Williams, examined this aspect of American culture and social history and illustrated how increased leisure time in America during the twentieth century gave rise to a variety of participatory and spectator sports and, consequently, representations of athletic activities in art. More than fifty artists, including John Baldessari, George Bellows, Joseph Golinkin, Winslow Homer, Alex Katz, and Robert Rauschenberg, were featured in this exhibition of sixty-six etchings, woodcuts, engravings, and lithographs. The exhibition is organized by the American Federation of Arts. It is a project of ART ACCESS II, a program of the AFA with major support from the Wallace-Reader's Digest Fund. |
