Millet to Matisse: Nineteenth- and Twentieth-Century French Painting from Kelvingrove Art Gallery, Glasgow
November 2002–April 2005

Lorem Ipsum, is the curator of the exhibition.

Kelvingrove Art Gallery in Glasgow houses what is widely acknowledged as the most important municipal collection of French paintings in Great Britain. Millet to Matisse brought together sixty-four of the gallery’s most acclaimed works by artists who worked in France during the extraordinary period of creativity that spanned the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, offering both a comprehensive view of developments in French painting of the era and also providing a glimpse into the culture of Glasgow at the turn of the twentieth century, where collectors of avant-garde art not only provided the basis for the collection at Kelvingrove but played a vital role in the emergence of various local artistic movements such as the Glasgow Boys and the Scottish Colorists.

Exhibition Itinerary: The Speed Art Museum (November 6, 2002–February 2, 2003); the Frick Art & Historical Center (March 2–May 25, 2003); the Joslyn Art Museum (June 21–September 14, 2003); the Albuquerque Museum (October 5, 2003January 4, 2004); Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec (January 29May 2, 2004); the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts (May 22August 15, 2004); the Oklahoma City Museum of Art (September 8December 5, 2004); and Fundación La Caixa, Spain (January 21April 26, 2005).
