Rembrandt to Gainsborough: Masterpieces from England's Dulwich Picture Gallery
October 1999–April 2000
This exhibition, curated by Desmond Shawe-Taylor and Ian A. C. Dejardin, presented ninety of the most famous old master paintings from the Dulwich Picture Gallery, providing a rich overview of Dutch, English, French, Italian, Spanish, and Flemish baroque painting and conveying the sumptuousness and drama of the period's art. Portraits by Thomas Gainsborough, Rembrandt, and Anthony van Dyck and landscapes by Canaletto, Aelbert Cuyp, and Jacob van Ruisdael were among the many highlights. Exhibition Itinerary: Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (October 24, 1999-January 9, 2000) and the Speed Art Museum (January 25-April 9, 2000).
