Dear Friends,
In 2009, the American Federation of Arts (AFA) will celebrate 100 years of bringing great art to communities like yours nationwide and around the world.
From founder Elihu Root’s clarion call to bring original works of art to the “hinterlands” in 1909, to our channel on YouTube today, the AFA has pursued a wide range of activities in response to a constantly changing cultural environment.
Your gift to the AFA’s Annual Fund plays a vital role in making our exhibitions, publications, and educational initiatives possible. During the past year, gifts to the annual fund helped bring American masterpieces by Georgia O’Keeffe, John Singer Sargent, and Edward Hopper to audiences in Dallas, Fort Lauderdale and Venice, Italy, and gave educators from St. Louis to Boston the tools to teach their students about 19th century French art and history.
Additionally, the AFA’s new ArtPods series now makes live conversations with leading contemporary artists, scholars and critics–previously available only to New York audiences–accessible to all via the internet.
Thanks to you, people in cities large and small have the chance to experience and learn from works of art that they might otherwise never see.
Most importantly, your tax-deductible gift to the Annual Fund will be matched by a generous anonymous donor this year.
Let’s give the AFA’s second century a grand start!
Your support is greatly appreciated.
