Ernesto Caivano
March 25, 2009

At the March 25th ArtTalk, artist Ernesto Caivano presented a selection of images from his ongoing series "After the Woods"—which he has described as “a fairy tale for adults.” This epic narrative, composed of exquisite, meticulously detailed ink drawings, reflects a wide range of formal and thematic concerns. In his lecture, Caivano revealed the deep interdisciplinary knowledge that informs his work, relating his drawings to the Garden of Eden story, medieval fairytales, nanotechnology, and economics.

Caivano, whose drawings of flora and fauna are reminiscent of the work of Albrecht Dürer and Hieronymus Bosch, attracted international attention when selections from “After the Woods” were included in the Whitney Biennial 2004. His most recent solo exhibitions were held at White Cube, London (2008) and Carlier Gebauer, Berlin (2007), and his work is also featured in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Guggenheim Museum, the New York Public Library, and the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Denmark, among others.
